Overview

VCE VET Dance covers the fundamentals of dance training and prepares you for a career in dance with industry-relevant skill and valuable experience.

All training takes place within a studio or school setting and is suitable for students who are new to dance, or currently studying dance.

Where can you study?

This course is delivered as part of a VET Delivered to Secondary Schools (VDSS) Program. It is offered through partnership arrangements with over 30 secondary schools and dance studios in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland.

Why Study With Ausdance VIC

Ausdance VIC is the government recognised peak body for dance in Victoria and a registered RTO with over 22 years’ experience delivering high-quality education to the dance sector. Our offerings are at the forefront of dance education, and as one of the first training providers to offer VET Dance-in-schools we have a strong history of delivering industry-led, engaging programs that support the Victorian dance curriculum.

Course Structure

The VCE VET Dance program can be completed over two years and commence in either year 10 or year 11. Units will be delivered and assessed in a sequence planned and determined by the school trainer and assessor. A variety of assessment methods are used such as class and performance observations, written tests, journals and oral presentations.  

Year One (Units 1 & 2)

Enrolment in CUA20120 Certificate II in Dance. Students who complete Year 1 receive a Statement of Attainment.

  • CUAWHS111 Follow safe dance practices
  • CUAWHS211 Develop a basic level of physical fitness for dance performance

  • CUADAN213 Perform basic jazz dance techniques
  • CUADAN215 Perform basic contemporary dance techniques
  • CUADAN216 Perform basic ballet techniques
  • CUADAN217 Perform basic tap techniques
  • CUADAN218 Perform basic street dance techniques
  • CUADAN220 Perform basic lyrical dance techniques
  • CUADAN219 Perform basic cultural dance techniques (subject to approval)

Year Two (Units 3 & 4)

Enrolment in CUA30120 Certificate III in Dance. Students who complete Year 2 receive the Certificate II in Dance and a Statement of Attainment containing select units from the Certificate III in Dance.

Successful completion of the Certificate II in Dance CUA20120 may offer a pathway to further training in the following courses:

Fees

Ausdance VIC fees are all-inclusive and cover enrolment, annual statutory reporting, monitoring of delivery and assessment, trainer support, industry days and certification.

Additional fees may be charged by schools / studios depending on the setting in which you choose to train.

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites

Year 1 (CUA20120 Certificate II in Dance)

There are no pre-requisites to enrol into Certificate II in Dance or Year 1 of the VET Dance Program.

Year 2 (CUA30120 Certificate III in Dance)

If enrolling directly into Year 2 of VET Dance, students must have a minimum of 3 years of prior dance experience and:

  • Complete a written application to demonstrate they have the required safe dance principles, skills and knowledge; and
  • Hold an AQF level 2 unit of competency in both dance styles selected for year 2 of VET Dance; or
  • Complete an RPL process including an audition and submission of written evidence to demonstrate competence in the two dance styles chosen for VET Dance, equivalent to Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level 2 or above.

On enrolment, all learners must complete a simple language, literacy and numeracy assessment to assist with determining eligibility and to identify learning support needs.

  • Certificate of Registration by Descent
  • Citizenship Certificate

You will also need to have selected the institution or studio who will be delivering the course.
