Ausdance VIC Executive Director Michelle Silby is stepping down from her role with the organisation. After eight years of steadfast leadership, Michelle has determined that now is the appropriate time to step away.
During her tenure, Ausdance VIC has achieved significant milestones, including the expansion of our Registered Training Organisation, the introduction of the Big Dance International Festival to Australia, and the production of the Australian Dance Awards. Additionally, we have acted as presenting partner for prominent festival Dance Massive and FRAME that celebrated dance and dance artists from across forms.
Michelle played a pivotal role in the successful delivery of the Australian Youth Dance Festival in 2017, the 2019 International edition, and in 2022. She secured core funding for the organisation and funding for various projects, including Blue Sky Dance and the Think Tank Dance Assembly.
Michelle has also served on numerous state and federal government-appointed advisory boards overseeing industry training, pathways, and careers for dance and the broader arts sector.
Silby says, “It has been my honour and privilege to lead this organisation over the last 8 years, five of which were spent simultaneously leading Ausdance NSW. Much has been achieved through the hard work and commitment of past and current staff, board, and our members. I’ve enjoyed working collaboratively with my colleagues within the Arts Industry Council of Victoria and the Ausdance National network, for our shared love and support of the dance sector and the communities it engages with.”
Ms. Silby will be remembered for her successful advocacy and unwavering commitment to the Victorian dance community, particularly during the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On behalf of the Board and staff, Ausdance VIC Chair Helen Haines congratulates Michelle Silby on her tenure with Ausdance VIC and wishes her well in all future pursuits.
The Board of Directors has asked Robbie Carmellotti to assume the role of Interim Executive Director to ensure the successful continuation of our crucial advocacy initiatives, industry engagement and education programs. Mr. Carmellotti returns to Ausdance VIC after joining the organisation in 2020 as General Manager and brings a wealth of experience to the role. Recruitment of new leadership will commence in 2024.
