AYDF 2019

AYDF International (7 – 12 July 2019)

Ausdance VIC, in partnership with Youth Dance Australia, presented the Australian Youth Dance Festival – International 2019 (AYDF) in Melbourne, Australia, 7-12 July 2019.

Titled REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE (rpm), the Festival brought together more than 150 youth dance practitioners, leaders and facilitators together to create, collaborate and reflect while immersing in energising and inspiring dance encounters.

With an extraordinary line up of practitioners from all over including the UK, Singapore, India, Scotland, Finland, Denmark and all over Australia, the 5-day long festival had youth dancers dance, think, make and talk dance together, through daily sessions in contemporary dance, choreography, repertory and improvisation. Running alongside the youth dancers’ sessions was a 2.5-day Think Tank program for dance leaders, educators, professional and emerging artists with an interest in youth dance/arts practice.

Directed by Alice Lee Holland, the 2019 Festival brought together youth dancers and their leaders from Australia and around the world for five incredible days of creativity.

“It was thrilling to be leading this incredible dance festival for young people from all over the world. REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE refers to change, speed and our increasingly global community. With a rich, integrated program of classes, workshops and panels, the Festival positions young dancers at the centre of the program as artistic collaborators, provocateurs and our future leaders.

The program is underpinned by contemporary dance as a rebellious art form committed to innovation; a form that’s unafraid to ask questions, and bravely seek out the answers.

The Festival thrives on curiosity, rigour and freedom. Young dancers will be empowered by their Festival experience, inspired and supported by professional dance artists to move fearlessly, think independently and create boldly. As a newly connected community of international peers, they will support each other through physical and creative challenges, and collaborate in search of new ideas.
