Game Play

Bringing Dance Education to Classrooms Through the Energy of Video Games

Game Play is an innovative dance education program, developed in partnership with the Department of Education’s Blended Arts Program. It offers a fresh way for students to explore movement inspired by the world of video games, while building confidence, creativity, and connection through dance.

Student Learning Experiences

Through Game Play, students will:

  • Use their bodies to communicate ideas and emotions, developing personal autonomy and self-expression
  • Imagine and build their own avatars, worlds, and adventures – whether fantastical, natural, or wholly invented
  • Explore choreographic devices and dance elements to develop, manipulate, and refine movement phrases
  • Work collaboratively to share, discuss, and evolve movement ideas, giving and receiving feedback
  • Experiment with improvisation, take creative risks, and push movement ideas further through guided exploration

Teacher Benefits & Expectations

  • Teachers who participate in Game Play can expect:
  • Students to actively engage in both structured and improvisational tasks
  • A classroom environment built on collaboration, where ideas are respected and developed
  • Movement sequences to evolve as students apply feedback and refine their creative work
  • Integration of imaginative, game-inspired concepts into original choreography
  • Confidence in using the lesson plans and teaching frameworks to run their own dance sessions

Curriculum Alignment & Purpose

  • Fully aligned with the Victorian Curriculum F–10 (The Arts – Dance) – Levels 3–4 and 5–6.
  • Designed around purposeful learning, not just play: each activity and task builds choreographic thinking.
  • Supported by the Dance Guidance framework to ensure high-quality dance teaching.
  • Enriched with ACTIVATE dance card resources, providing classroom-ready ideas and ongoing teacher development.

Why Game Play Matters

We believe that movement should be more than a break – it should be meaningful. Game Play brings the joy and familiarity of gaming into dance in a way that supports curriculum goals while being deeply engaging.

With Game Play, teachers gain the tools to embed dance into their teaching practice, and students develop confidence, creativity, teamwork, and a stronger connection to their bodies – all within a familiar, game-inspired context.
