Victorian Dance Census

Shaping the future of dance
Victorian Dance Census

Data that moves the sector forward

The Victorian Dance Census is a biennial research initiative by Ausdance VIC, designed to capture a detailed snapshot of Victoria’s dance sector. Through each edition, we explore key trends in engagement, education and training, business and employment, health and safety, and community sentiment.

By gathering insights from students, teachers, social dancers, professionals, and businesses, the Census builds a comprehensive picture of our dance ecosystem. This evidence-based understanding helps us identify sector needs, shape responsive programs, strengthen advocacy, and inform data-driven policy recommendations to government and key decision-makers.

Each contribution helps shape the future of dance in Victoria, ensuring that the diversity, creativity, and vitality of our community are reflected in the policies and support structures that sustain it. And the Census findings offer both a call to action and a roadmap for the sector, guiding educators, policymakers, and leaders toward a stronger, more connected dance community.

2025 Victorian Dance Census

We’re inviting everyone across Victoria’s dance community to take part in the 2025 Victorian Dance Survey. Whether you dance, teach, manage, perform, or run a studio, your experience counts. Your input provides critical data that helps us advocate effectively for the sector, influencing policy, funding, and support for the entire dance community. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and share it within your networks.

The survey will close at 11:59pm, Friday 21 November.
