Thanks to the incredible efforts of our community, Victoria will achieve the 80 per cent first dose vaccination target today.
While this target does allow some modest easing of restrictions in Metro and Regional areas, there are no changes for Dance.
Metro Melbourne and Mitchell Shire – 5 people can attend a venue to broadcast a performance, class or concert.
Regional Victoria– dance studios can open for in-person class and rehearsal, max 10 participants per venue within a density quotient of 1 person per 4 square metres. The staff required to conduct the activity is not counted in the cap of 10.
Important Clarifications
- No in-person classes or rehearsals are permitted in Metro Melbourne and Mitchell shire.
- Venues can only be accessed for the purpose of broadcast. This can be for simultaneous broadcast (eg. live stream) or recording for later broadcast (eg. recorded performance).
- It is a maximum of 10 people per venue (ie building). If you have a venue with multiple studios, you can still only have 10 participants maximum.
We are engaging in active advocacy and discussions with the State Government and will provide an update on these activities and outcomes later this week.

Following the National Strategy to re-open based on vaccination figures, we strongly encourage all eligible members of the Dance and Performing Arts community to make an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination. More appointments are being added all the time. Through higher vaccination numbers we will see the safe return of in-person dance to our communities Find out more and book: https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/book-your-vaccine-appointment
